| Author Info | Dadabhai Naoroji (1825–1917), popularly known as the ‘Grand Old Man of India’, was thrice elected President of the Indian National Congress and was the most respected leader of our Freedom Struggle. In 1892, he became the first Indian to be elected to the British House of Commons. He was one of the primary advocates of Swaraj, or self-rule, for India. Naoroji’s most lasting contribution to Indian Nationalism was his exposure of the exploitative nature of British colonialism through his ‘drain theory’. He was much devoted to the Political Programmes of The Indian National Congress He always showed great concern for the economically weak sections of our society and greatly opposed the policy of the British Raj through his speeches and writings. His urge for Swaraj was unmatched. He fearlessly gave vent to feelings at several platforms. |
