The Hindus: An Alternative History is a book studying the history of Hinduism. Summary of the Book In this controversial book, Wendy Doniger discusses one of the oldest religions in the world, breaking it down into its basics. Doniger speaks to the reader about how Hindu myths have evolved, trying to understand where legend and imagination have interspersed to form a mixture so strong that it has been masked with layers upon layers of speculation, revision and perhaps even misinterpretation. About Wendy Doniger Wendy Doniger O'Flaherty is an American Indologist and writer. Some of her major works are: Hindu Myths: A Sourcebook, The Origins of Evil in Hindu Mythology, The Rig Veda: An Anthology, 108 Hymns Translated from the Sanskrit and Harsha’s Priyadarsika and Ratnavali. A graduate of Oxford University, where she obtained her D.Phil, she currently holds the Mircea Eliade Distinguished Service Professor Chair in History of Religions at the University of Chicago.
