Amazon Prime launched in India for Rs 499 per year; here’s everything you need to know

After numerous rumors, Amazon Prime is finally here in India. The inspiration behind Flipkart’s First service, Amazon describes its service as ‘Amazon Prime = Amazon Fulfilled + Free Fast Delivery’. One can opt for the Amazon Prime service by paying Rs 499 per year, which is an introductory pricing. Flipkart First, on the other hand, is available for users at Rs 500 per year. Amazon India does mention that the original price will be Rs 999 per year, but doesn’t reveal for how long the introductory price will be valid. Currently, Amazon India is also offering a 60-day free trial service for those who want to try out the service first.
One of the advantages of opting for Amazon Prime is free shipping for any product with ‘no minimum order size’. Prime members get free one-day or two-day delivery without having to pay extra for the service. In comparison, the rest of the users have to pay Rs 40 delivery charge for products priced less than Rs 499, or Rs 100 and Rs 80 respectively for one-day and two-day deliveries respectively. Prime members can also opt for same-day delivery by Rs 50 extra, which is still less than Rs 150 paid by the rest of the users. Not all products are eligible for Prime service though, and one will need to keep a lookout for the Prime logo besides a listed item.
