Reliance Jio officially Discontinued Summer Surprise Offer

After the Welcome Offer, the Happy New Year offer and its three-month extension, Reliance Jio introduced the Summer Surprise Offer to keep things interesting. While the previous offers were objected upon by Jio competitors, the Mukesh Ambani-led telecom company always got a clean chit by the regulators. However, TRAI drew the line with the introduction of the Summer Surprise Offer, and ‘advised’ Jio to pull down the offer, as it did not comply with the regulatory framework. After providing a small window to get the Summer Surprise Offer, the company has finally taken it off from its official website today.
Where the Summer Surprise Offer was listed on the Jio website, the company has now put up a disclaimer, which reads, “We are updating our tariff packs and will be soon introducing more exciting offers.”
Since Reliance Jio’s official launch in September 2016, up until April 1, there has been one offer followed by the other, which enabled free services for the telecom operator’s customers. But starting April, the Jio’s paid services official kick off. However, in an attempt to compensate for the paid service once again, Jio introduced Prime member subscription for Rs 99, followed by a Summer Surprise offer with some interesting data benefits. Prime members could recharge their number with Rs 303 and above to avail three months of complimentary usage. However, soon after TRAI advised Jio to withdraw its complimentary three months Summer Surprise offer, and Jio immediately accepted the decision.
“We examined it and found that it was not in accordance with regulatory framework, so we advised them to stop it,” TRAI chairman R S Sharma had told PTI.
It is important to note, for Jio customers who have already subscribed to the Summer Surprise Offer, they will continue to reap the benefit of the same. The offer has only been withdrawn for the further subscription.
Under the Summer Surprise offer, there were a total of six plans. Starting at a Rs 303 plan, the pack offered 1GB high-speed data daily, and a Rs 499 plan offered 2GB high-speed data daily. Jio also offered ‘buy one get three free’ offer on these plans, under which for subscription above Rs 303, users could avail these pack benefits for 112 days, which is roughly three and a half months.
Then there were other plans priced between Rs 999 to Rs 9,999 with unrestricted usage, offering data from 60GB (60 days validity) to 750GB data (360 days validity). Also, for those recharged for Rs 999 and above, Jio offered 100GB free data for three months up to June 30, after which the regular plan benefits applied.
